getting directions

Last night was Ottertail Coaches Christmas party and we met with our good friends, Brian and Elaine at the event.

We shared our latest news and ate a fabulous meal before one of the business owners, Mike and his wife Dawn announced the employee winners of the door prizes. Every employee was given two tickets they had to sign and put into a jar next to the prize they wanted to win.

One of the prizes was a digital frame and the other, a Garmin, which gives directions to whereever you want to go. Those were the two he picked and ones I would've wanted also. so we waited. Obviously he wasn't named to the first two prizes offered but when it came to the two he'd chosen for his tickets, we all held our breath. His name wasn't called for the digital picture but Elaine said there was one left and Doug ALWAYS seems to receive a door prize at these functions.

Of course, as you can tell by the title of this blog, Doug's name was called for the Garmin. I thought, finally I can have something in my car for some of my trips but to no avail. As soon as we got in the car, Doug was putting in addresses for it to find. While I was getting Jose's cereal at SunMart, Doug put in the address to our home. As we traveled home, the voice on the machine told Doug when to turn and how far we needed to travel to the next turn. When we took a short cut to our house, the machine seemed irritated. Turn left now. Turn left now. It meant nothing because we really knew the most simplest way.

Recomputing. Recomputing. was it's next message.

We finally got back in its good graces when we turned where it told us to turn on our street by our house.

He took it in the house and sat in his chair for some time looking at this techno piece. He's a guy. He's in heaven playing with it.

I suppose now this machine with a female voice will be given a name. Lola? Lucy?

And why doesn't it come with a masculine voice? I think I'll get that model next.
